　　20世紀(jì)80年代，美麗的女大學(xué)生薩曼莎·休斯（喬塞琳·多納休 Jocelin Donahue 飾）看上一間公寓，好心的女房東已經(jīng)免去了麻煩的保證金，不過薩曼莎還是要為了每月的房租而努力。她從布告欄找到一份保姆的工作，當(dāng)晚，薩曼莎的好友梅根（格蕾塔·葛韋格 Greta G erwig 飾）送她前往雇主家面試。梅根對這份工作頗有顧忌，而薩曼莎似乎急于賺錢，全不在意。　　雇主烏爾曼夫婦住在荒郊野外的一幢老式別墅中，這里沒有小孩需要照看，文森特·烏爾曼先生（湯姆·諾南 Tom Noonan 飾）要為他生病的母親找一位護(hù)理人員。薩曼莎起初惴惴不安，但看在錢的份上她最終選擇留在這里。而她將為這個選擇后悔莫及……
