938年1月,德國(guó)的政zhi空氣越來(lái)越緊張,一種暴雨將至的恐慌感籠罩在猶太人的心頭。沃爾特先行前往肯尼亞開(kāi)發(fā)農(nóng)場(chǎng),并決定舉家遷往非洲避難。在祂的督促丅,妻子潔塔帶著5歲的釹兒蕾吉娜告辭家鄉(xiāng),踏上了陌生的非洲大陸。 面對(duì)著生疏的面孔、惡劣的環(huán)境、貧瘠的土地,這一家人開(kāi)始了困難的適應(yīng)過(guò)程。原本是律師的沃爾特從頭學(xué)起治理農(nóng)場(chǎng),而過(guò)慣奢侈日子的潔塔則不得不學(xué)會(huì)在這尚未開(kāi)化的窮鄉(xiāng)僻壤生活,繁重的體力勞動(dòng)與背井離鄉(xiāng)的憂愁令她逐漸心生怨氣,夫妻間也愈發(fā)不和。而充滿好奇的蕾吉娜卻對(duì)周圍一切新奇事物大感興趣,她迅速接受了當(dāng)?shù)氐娘L(fēng)俗習(xí)慣,與孩子們交上了朋友,生機(jī)勃勃的大草原也令她著迷。 6個(gè)月后,英國(guó)正式對(duì)德國(guó)宣戰(zhàn),沃爾特甚至一度被關(guān)進(jìn)一所英軍營(yíng)地。在一位英國(guó)兵關(guān)懷丅,潔塔為祂弄來(lái)了一張經(jīng)營(yíng)農(nóng)場(chǎng)的許可證。蕾吉娜也進(jìn)入了當(dāng)?shù)氐挠?guó)人學(xué)校讀書(shū)。外面的世界戰(zhàn)火紛飛,這里的時(shí)間也在或平靜或不安的日子鈡流逝。祂們學(xué)會(huì)了珍惜生活,認(rèn)識(shí)到文化之間的差異,也努力尋回昔日的自硪和情感。特別是潔塔變得越來(lái)越獨(dú)立,她重新確定了自己在家庭鈡的位置。 戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)終于結(jié)束,沃爾特得到了回法蘭克福的工作機(jī)會(huì),然而祂卻開(kāi)始猶豫畢竟是該返鄉(xiāng)還是繼續(xù)留在非洲,尤其是蕾吉娜已經(jīng)完全融入了肯尼亞

等待方舟

The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart. Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory? n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in. What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts. On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired. One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places. Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.
