該影片講述9.18事變后，大批文物向西南遷移，1939年，抬棺匠人宋忠義被年輕寡婦楊桃雇傭，送亡夫棺材回樂山安谷鎮(zhèn)安葬，路上遇到心懷叵測的道士想要搶奪棺材，被宋忠義趕跑后，楊桃說出實(shí)話，她其實(shí)是故宮博物館的專家，棺材里面并非尸體而是文物寶藏，宋忠義妻女正是死于日本人之手，于是答應(yīng)護(hù)送文物至約定地點(diǎn)，一路上遭遇賣國賊埋伏，山賊攔截，親信背叛，在生死邊緣徘徊，最終抵達(dá)安谷鎮(zhèn)，將文物歸還給國家的故事。
