一天，金蓮與商人趙天佑在河邊相遇，互生情愫，但因金蓮的后母貪財(cái)，將金蓮被賣到妓院。金蓮到妓院后，在妓院主人翠姨的凝虐下終被逼良為娼。天佑幾經(jīng)辛苦才得知金蓮下落，天佑找到金蓮時(shí)，剛救回正自尋短見的金蓮，并決定和她逃走，不料他們的行蹤被發(fā)現(xiàn)，天佑因而被殺死，金蓮也被帶走，之后天佑為保護(hù)金蓮便化為厲鬼，嚇走欲打金蓮的人，令妓院生意一落千丈。翠姨找來一名道士對(duì)付天佑，最后天佑與金蓮分離。
